I'm Not Ready, But I Need To Be

...Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vine, Snapchat....malls, friends, girls, school dances...

I have entered a new stage of parenting and it's not an easy one.  I looked forward to the years of middle school grudgingly.  I tried not to.  I tried to look forward with joy and expectation of good things to come. It's new ground and I'm not sure I'm ready for it, but I need to be.

I learned a few things this week.  In no particular order...

I learned that middle schoolers are a lot smarter than we give them credit for.
I learned that Clearwater is number THREE in the WORLD for sex trafficking!
I learned that I parent out of fear (which is horrible parenting).
I learned that I am not alone.
I learned that 93% of kids 18 and under are on social media (my child is one of the 7%).
I learned that "More is CAUGHT than TAUGHT."
I learned that our actions speak volumes.
I learned that listening is of up most importance.
I learned that parents are the #1 spiritual influence on kids.
I learned that the "other" adult (teacher, youth leader, youth pastor, coach, etc) is #2.
I learned that open communication is needed.
I learned "pressured" conversations are frowned upon.
I learned that parents can go to jail for their kids behavior on and off line.
I learned that my #1 goal is to have kids that follow after God.
I learned that my #2 goal is to have kids who are respectful to others and themselves.
I learned that Deuteronomy 6:5-9 are important in the process.
I learned that I was right to follow Proverbs 22:6.
I learned that I really need an active prayer life.
I learned that if they are talking, you are winning!

Lord, help me to be the parent you called me to be.  Help me to raise up children that follow hard after you.  Help me, God, to raise children who respect themselves and others.  Lord, give me wisdom, strength, a shut mouth, and open ears.  Lead me to Your Word, and to my knees.
