Who knew???
My healthy guy is never sick. I mean never! He's been on a antibiotic all of 5 times in his 9.5 years of life.
So, today when I was helping him with his pants and remembered he had a "spot" on his belly, I was shocked at what I discovered. The one "spot" (which I thought was a pimple) I had seen on Monday, while he was hunting Easter eggs at our after Easter hang out with grandma and grandpa, was now 10-15 "spots!"
I then exclaimed, "oh my word, no school for you today!"
Aaron then came into the picture and asked, "why not?" To which I replied, "our oh-so-healthy son has CHICKEN POX!!!!" I was 90% sure.
Aaron then left for school himself and I searched the internet. How long does this last? Could it even be, my baby is vaccinated! How much school will be missed? Will we all get it? We leave for Florida in less than a month? Can I work? So many questions.
A trip with dad to the Minute Clinic and it was confirmed...CHICKEN POX!
The rest of the week out of school (at the very least)! Yes, you can get CHICKEN POX even though you are vaccinated (rare and less severe), who knew? No, we won't all necessarily get it and we are praying we don't! Can I work...that is still being decided. I don't work directly with patients, so they are guessing yes, but looking into it. And even if we all get it, we should be free in clear prior to Disney!
For now, Jonathan is resting with Ibuprofen and Benedryl in his system and I'm going to join him.
Nothing like illness to bring on extra snuggle time with mama!
**side note: symptoms start with a "cold" and low grade fever about a week before the "spots" appear. The "cold" symptoms start about a week after exposure to the virus which is airborne. I have no idea where Jonathan picked it up, nor did I know he had it till the extra "spots" appeared today.

I wondered how good/long lasting the vaccine would be, and now I know. Hopefully J is all better before you leave for Disney! When my two got it (I went looking for someone who had it and deliberately put them together so they would have it young and forget about it) we took them to the cottage for the week and the sun dried up the pox superfast.
