Award Day!

Our son's school is based on character traits or values, if you will.  Responsibility, integrity, respect, citizenship, gratitude, compassion, cooperation, self-control, and perseverance are the focused traits.  Each month a couple students are picked from each classroom to receive an award for displaying the character trait of the month.

The Character Award for this month was self-control.  Now, if you've been around long enough, you know Jonathan has struggled in school up until this year.  Self-control was not in his vocabulary.  Imagine my surprise and pride when I learned my son, Jonathan, was receiving the award this month!  Can you picture for a second how proud we are of him!  How far he has come this year absolutely floors us.  He amazes us daily with top grades, no green tickets, and positive attitude towards school.  We are proud!
Is he proud?  He's too cool to show his pride.  But I see it.  Mama knows.
As if that wasn't enough to send me into pride overload, he received a second award this month!
Apparently, Jonathan entered a short story into a creative writing contest this winter.  I had no idea.  When it comes to school and homework, Dad takes the reigns.  I work evenings and not always home when he arrives from school.  Dad is.  Even when I have the evening off, Jonathan and Dad do homework and Allie and I play.  It's how we do things.
So, I was rather surprised when I learned he received an honorable mention for his short story!  I was beaming!  Him, he prefers mug shots over showing his true excitement.  Mama knows.
Self-control landed him a gift certificate to Papa Murphy's for a free cookie dough and 2 bucks off a pizza.  The honorable mention was awarded a gift card to Culver's.  Which is where we went for dinner to celebrate Jonathan's achievements (his choice)!

Signed,
Proud Mama
