Jonathan's Field Trip
I recently joined Jonathan's class for a field trip to the Gibb's Museum. It is here they learned about life as a young woman who was raised in partnership with Native Americans.
Here Jonathan is learning what it may have been like to stomp on the rice from the fields.
They learned about TP's and how to respect the owner of the TP. Jonathan's best friend, Grace, happened to be the owner of this TP and Jonathan just happened to be her husband. We all wonder if it is prophecy?
This is a home where Ms. Gibb's lived.
The "narrators" were so much fun. They dressed in traditional clothing and made the stories come to life for the students.
The kids were impressed with the size of the TP.
I was impressed with the "original" feel of it all.
They have a one room school house there. I loved it. My dad went to a one room school house in Scandia, MN. His school was Hay Lake.
See how the kids sat straight in their chairs, it was a rule. You also had to stand to answer a question and complete your answer with, "sir." I'd like to see that kind of respect displayed in our schools today (I'm old school like that).
The students (pictured here: Grace and Jonathan) learned to make candles from scratch. This was a favorite for all of them!
This is the master bedroom in the modern home of the Gibb's family.
At the end of the day, the kids were able to touch and feel old irons, washers, tools, and such.
Each child went home with a candle and a new appreciation for life as they know it today.
