Answering the Quiz
I recently posted this about a contest I entered at the Minnesota State Fair. The following questions were asked...
If you answered correctly, you were entered into a drawing. I, of course, answered them all perfectly (I'm very wise, hehe). However, I didn't win a prize, but I did win some much needed knowledge.
The answers are...Parents, Decreasing, and Parents....mind boggling, right?!
(decreasing violence, we as a whole must be doing something right!!!!)
Did you have any idea what a huge influence us parents have on our children??? I really didn't until I took the quiz. If I hadn't thought long and hard about each question, I may have answered peer, increasing, peer (like so many I'm sure did (Aaron, ahem)).
In the following scenerio, I may be stretching this influence thing a bit, but I really don't think I am.
Just last night, some friends of mine and I were discussing having the "talk" with our kids. I know, gasp! I really don't want to talk about it or think about it, but reality is I need to, we need to! Our biggest ponder...how to get our kids to obstain? I know, what mother or father in their right mind in this day and age thinks their kids will wait till marriage to have sex?! Well, this mother (and her husband, the father of her children)! And, if the parents are the biggest influence/role models, I think I/we have a pretty good chance. We tell our children not to even worry about boys/girls until you are done with college. In our house (because we don't want our children to learn the hard ways like we did), we finish high school, go to college, get married, and then have babies (statistics show, once a person starts dating, they are either married or having sex within three years). And then we pray it sticks! Am I saying it is wrong to do these things in a different order or some not at all, no. I'm saying I will love and support my children unconditionally, however, I will also guide them in the ways we would like them to go. The Bible says in Proverbs 22:6, Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it.
Phew! Thank you, Lord, for using a silly contest and a fun night out with the girls to reveal your truths to me!
