Shifting Gears

Some days we are in neutral, some days reverse, some days 1st gear, and others 4Th (I once had a Chevy Chevette stick shift, 4 on the floor).

Today, our gears are shifting...

Aaron was in overdrive with school and after much prayer and deliberation, he is now in park. He is choosing to concentrate on work, family, and ministry right now. Perhaps when Allie starts kindergarten in a couple years, school will be put back into drive. God only knows. Some may think of this past year wasted, we think of it as drivers training.

When Aaron started school a year ago, our marriage was on the right road, so we thought. Well, when a road block was set up, our marriage took a turn for the worst. The road block, Internet pornography. May not seem like a road block to some, but it can turn into a huge detour when it becomes an addiction which destroys the road you are on! So, now, Aaron is in overdrive once again and headed down the road of purity. (Street Sign: IF you or someone you know is struggling with porn, please leave a message (anonymous if you wish) in my comments, we'd love to help and I can blog more on what worked for us in the future!)

Cries for help along the road have shifted our gears once again. We are currently counseling/supporting another couple who were also headed down the road of Internet pornography of destruction! They are now on the road to reconstruction! I highly recommend for wives...Every Heart Restored by Arterburn and Stoeker and Codependent No More by Melody Beattie. For guys, we strongly recommend getting into an SA (sexaholics anonymous) group, check their website for a location near you here! There are also SA support groups for the wives and other family members as well. Sa is run just like AA and my hubby has been sexually sober for 9 months!!!! God is good!

Shifting gears again, I am no longer helping with children's ministries. This was a tough one to throw in park. Aaron and I have always done ministry together. I am now full speed ahead in my mom's ministry, Time-Out for Moms at Abundant Life Church. I am excited to see what roads God leads us down this year as we plummet through the road blocks motherhood, friendships, and marriage set up in our lives.

We are also shifting the summer into 1st gear and school into 4Th! For Jonathan, this can be a head on crash. He struggles with generalized anxiety, so gearing up for school isn't an easy shift. He is stressed over a new teacher and new bus driver this year. We are preparing him for the year of drivers training the best we can and praying constantly for him. He is excited to see his friends and have a routine back though!

For Allie, well, she is always full speed ahead! No matter what the day has in store, Allie is in overdrive ready to take the fast lane. She looks forward to road trips to Mall of America for Toddler Tuesday, the Lions Park for play dates, and Elk River to meet auntie for coffee! Allie also can't wait for those days her and mommy put the brakes on and have a jammie day or two!

As we continue shifting gears, God remains the back seat driver. He continues telling us which way to go, how fast, when to put the brakes on, and when to throw it in park!

Visiting from Heather's EO!

This was a lovely metaphor. And very well written. I liked the end - that God is such a back seat driver...
Wow, you've been through so much. I love it that you want to help other people who have been in your shoes. Thank you for sharing your story!
